Home decor | Reading nook

Last week we went to my favourite thrift store and got ourselves a chair. It's a beautiful golden-green chair, and it fits perfectly into the corner of our livingroom.

I've wanted to put the pictures up for quite some time, and we finally got around to it today. The big empty frame will eventually be filled with little pictures on string.

I love how this corner turned out, and I can't wait to curl up in this chair with a blanket and a good book.

DIY | Chili oil

I had a bunch of different chilis lying around my kitchen, and I didn't really know what to do with them. I had some oil, and so I chopped up the the chilis and dumped them into the oil. Let it sit for a few days, et voilá - chili oil.

Use it for an extra umph in your cooking.
It's wonderful.
(And pretty.)

Realization | Time

Since I started my new job, time has just flown by! I get up, go to work, go home, fall onto the couch and attempt to gather enough energy together to make dinner.
Make dinner, eat dinner, clear the table, cuddle the dog, kiss my husband, and then I'm dead. I sit on the couch and watch some tv, and I'm just so tired. And then I go to sleep.

I don't really read anymore. I don't crochet, I don't bake, I don't draw.
I hardly ever listen to music anymore.

It's draining.

Don't get me wrong - I really do like my new job, but this lack of energy is tough. I realize it'll get better as I get accustomed to working like this, but right now it's just-.. well, tiring.

And I miss studying. I miss being out of work.
I miss having the time and energy to be spontaneous. I'm a spontaneous person - it's a part of who I am, but it requires some energy. Energy that I don't have right now. And I kind of miss myself.

I realize now how privileged I was before. How much time I really had on my hands! And how much of that time I wasted on the couch, watching lousy tv shows.

When I go back to studying I will most likely still spend too much time on the couch watching lousy tv, but it will not come close to how much I did it before. Time and energy should be used properly and effectively. At least sometimes.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I really need to go to bed.

Just a thought | Positive

So, I know I've been neglecting my blog a bit.
The days are just disappearing.

I started working fulltime a couple of weeks ago, and I'm still getting used to it. It's quite tough, but I'm hanging in there, and I'm quite amazed that my body has already gotten used to 7 hours of sleep or less, when I've been used to at least 9 hours for the past year.

At work they measure different things, like how effective and productive we are. They also measure how happy the customers are with how we handled their case. The customers tell us their satisfaction by answering a text and rating us. You would be surprised how much those texts mean to us.

Maybe it's because I'm still new, and I need the confirmation that I'm doing alright, but a text from a satisfied customer can make my day.

It's not much, but it's enough.

It's all in the little things, right?

A compliment can make a day.
My day.
Anyone's day.

A compliment is always appreciated. And it really doesn't take much, but we still often forget to compliment each other.

I like complimenting people, but I often forget it. Things get in the way, I get busy, you know the drill. It's a shame.

I know how happy it makes me.
Compliments are the best.
Everyone likes them.

It's all about the little things, yes?

DIY | Onion peel easter eggs

Yesterday I enlisted the help of my hubby and a friend and used most of the day making easter eggs. I used a technique we used when I was a kid, and this is the first time I've done it without my mom. And guess what - it turned out pretty good!

First, we had to empty all the eggs.

Then we started the decorating process. We did some eggs with food colouring and some with onion peels. I'll show you how to make the onion peel eggs, but food colouring is exactly the same, just apply it to the wet tissue paper.

Get a piece of tinfoil and layers of wet tissue paper. Add onion peels around your empty egg.

Wrap up the egg and onion peels in the wet tissue paper.

Then wrap the tinfoil tightly around the egg (without crushing it).

When you've covered all your eggs you boil them for about 45 minutes. It helps to add a plate on top of them to stop them from bobbing out of the water.

After the 45 minutes you carefully unwrap them (they're hot and full of boiling water!) and hopefully they look something like this:

Let them dry for a few minutes, and they're ready for whatever use you have for them.
